S[O.sub.x] storage materials under lean-rich cycling conditions: Part II: Influence of Pt, [H.sub.2]O, and cycling time
Article Abstract:
The role of Pt and the effect of the reaction conditions during lean-rich cycling experiments are studied on a second-generation S[O.sub.x] trapping material. The results have shown that strong S[O.sub.x] adsorption sites on the surface, the presence of water and a short time under reducing conditions are required for effective S[O.sub.2] storage materials.

Rational design of selective, sulfur-resistant oxidation emissions catalysts
Article Abstract:
A new catalyst design strategy based on optimizing electronic structure was proposed and then applied to the design of selective, sulfur-resistant oxidation emissions catalysts. It was seen that an alloy surface (Ir alloyed Pt(111) surface) with a surface d-band center around -2.22 eV has the highest selectivity for oxidation of NO over SO2 at 700K.

Electronic composition-property relationship applied to SO2 chemisorption on Pt(111) surfaces, alloys, and overlayers
Article Abstract:
A study carried out has developed a new electronic composition-property relationship between the adsorption energy of molecules binding unequally to multiple atoms on metal surfaces and the electronic properties of the surface. Details of the consequences of our electronic composition-property relationship for catalyst design are discussed.
